Project Life - Week 15

Friday, April 18, 2014

This last couple of weeks I've really been questioning why I'm sticking to the weekly format.  I've been around in circles and almost decided to just go with the flow, until yesterday.
The quote relates to our OLW prompt this month which I've been thinking about a lot.

I was talking to my husband about the date our lovely elderly (nearly 102 yrs old) neighbour passed away last year and I found myself flicking back through my 2013 album. Then I looked at week 16 of that year and it was funny how some of the events were almost identical to this week! What I actually find the most interesting are the written journal notes and stories. Of course the photos back up the stories, or tell a story of their own.
My special model sat as directed in front of this funky tiled wall I walk past nearly every day. It's part of the local Arts Centre.
It was a reminder to me that although I've changed size of pages, I should still record what I think is relevant. Of course I have no idea if anyone is going to want to read these snippets in years to come!

Next year may be a different story. At least I'll have a couple of years of weekly life documented though. Next week we're off on an adventure...and I'm going to break out the 9 pocket pages...ha!

It's Good Friday here today. Happy Easter to all:)

Project Life - Week 14

Saturday, April 12, 2014

During this week I had to live by my own words I'd quoted to several people. It wasn't an easy week and I found myself looking for some happy moments to balance out the not so good happening. That's something I've been working on and I'll talk more about that soon.

The result was a week with not so many photos.

The left side photo is actually from the previous Sunday.  It's a photo I felt it needed it's own page.
The right side came together as a simple collage to summarise the week.  I used a digital paper from One Little Bird as the background.  Love that paper so much I'm sure it'll be used again soon:)
I have created a third page of photos of my son photographing his photography assignment.  Here's a glimpse but for his privacy, I'm not showing the whole page. I think I might make a page about the Royal Tour of NZ to sit beside this page.  Yes we have Royal fever here:

Project Life - Beach pages

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

Last weekend we put our clocks back to standard time.  I never like the first few weeks of any time change! This one always has the gloomy feeling that winter's approaching, although it's so darn muggy at night that I can't sleep properly so in a way I'm looking forward to the cooler weather.

Anyway, I mentioned in my previous posts that I wanted to add some extra pages to my PL album and gradually change the way I'm working it.

Around weeks 12 and 13 I took some photos of the beach that I just felt needed their own place rather than be mixed in with other photos.  (all iPhone photos)

This layout was a case of less is more!  I'm sure I've said before that it seems harder to make simple pages - the process here was certainly subtracting elements. I wanted the photos to be the main focus. Some new Ali Edwards digital elements seemed as if they were designed for me! (Left page)

I chose to leave the photos clean of any element.  It really helps that we live in such beautiful surroundings! When I look at these pages, I'm gobsmacked by the beauty of our coastline.
true story!

Thanks for stopping by.  Someone has asked me to post more on A4 pages.  Mine are actually US letter size but the ideas can be transferred to A4 easily.  Please don't hesitate to ask more specific questions or what you'd like me to post more of:)

Project Life - Week 13

Saturday, April 5, 2014

I loved using my new WRMK 9 pocket pages this week. Last weekend Anna went on an overnight tramp to Rangitoto Island and Mototapu Island. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know I take a lot of photos of the beach.  The island which is often the focal point in them is Rangitoto Island.  The photo at the bottom of the left page is taken by her from the top of the island.  I was excited to get that perspective of the Harbour Bridge.
I can't stop handwriting these days. The Queen lyrics are destined for my wall but came in handy to add to my page this week.
I took the opportunity to add more journaling again.  Love using digital so I can manipulate the size of the cards and elements. I've added in just a few of Anna's photos but she'll get a few pages in her own album.

Among the challenging things this current week, I had to chase up a missing photo order and when it arrived, some of the photos were missing... so... I will have more to share soon!  Grateful to have our internet back on after nearly 2 full days!  We have a son with a deadline on an important assignment and so it couldn't have happened at a much worse time for him!  We could seriously do without the stress!!

Happy weekend everyone:)

Still loving the smaller size...

While I was waiting for my divided pages to arrive, I used another collage for the week's highlights in photos. I love collages so much and think I'll be using them a lot more. There are heaps of great templates to use with Photoshop, or free online sites, or I just make up my own. The only downside is extra bits of journaling, but for me I love the clean look without too much on the photos.

At this time of the year, the sunrises in particular are stunning from our house, and if we look out west in the evening, the sky is gorgeous too. Already, as I write this post in week 14, it's dark when I rise and the sunrises don't seem as great as a few weeks ago.

To compensate for less room for journaling, I've decided to go with more journaling some weeks.  Maybe once a month, I'll summarise a bit more/make a currently page?  Still working it out as I go.

I've actually made another set of pages from photos over a few weeks which made a nice spread. In a previous post I mentioned that collecting photos in a more pleasing format was one reason behind my move to a different style. I'll post that one soon. Thanks for stopping by:)
