Project Life | Oct 1

Sunday, October 26, 2014

To use the reverse side of the 12x12 page protector from the Shelby pages, I made another collage using a 12x12 template by Paislee Press and resided it smaller to have some white surrounding space.
Basically it's a bunch of photos of shadows, light and flowers. No surprises there.

The right side is a bit of a catch up of the first weeks of October which flashed by. I'm totally at peace with not doing full weekly spreads at the moment.

And especially so, as from tomorrow I'll be doing a comprehensive Week in the Life and just quietly, I'm looking forward to this project!

Project Life | A Photo Story

Friday, October 24, 2014

A few weeks ago I realised I was really missing having a specific photography project to focus on. As if I don't have enough projects I'm already working on...! It struck me that during the 3 winter months I was concentrating on #donnaswintermagicproject I learned a few very valuable things. One being that looking for a little magic in my everyday made me really appreciate the beauty and joy in the simple things around me, and the other... that I just love capturing that magic! It doesn't take much to make me happy.

And so, one day as I was about to get into the shower, two things popped into my head, one after the other! Firstly, I don't mean to sound weird but I did work out that the shower significance is due to the fact that I've usually just been for a walk and usually that means I've walked along the beach, breathing in the sea air and listening to the waves. While that's good for the soul, it also releases good thoughts from my brain! That's a win.

One of those thoughts was for a photo project (and the other was about OLW for 2015). I realised that our beloved Shelby has so many Shelby-isms as we like to call them and they need to be recorded in some way. So I grabbed my DSLR and phone and pestered her for hours! She isn't quite as bad as 2 teens when they've had enough of the camera in their faces, but she's getting wary of it.

After what turned out to be 24 hours I decided that to really capture those things I'd need to video her. What I did get though, was this collection of photos that tell a story over a specific time frame and then I added our list of the things that make her...her. A simple example of photos + words.

I used a 12x12 template by Paislee Press to organise the right side.

Week in the life 2014 | I have a plan...

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

It's that time again. Last year I gave a lot of thought to how I wanted to document this and how it would fit in with my plan of storing things.

I decided to make a 20 page photo book (8x11) to file in my Project Life album along with the weekly double page spread. Here's what the finished product looks like. I made up my own page design.
WITL 2013
You can view the process here and Week 37 here. I love how it turned out. I think this weekly layout has had one of the highest views of anything on my blog, so it seems others liked it too!

This year, I had a wee think and here's what I've decided:

  • A 6x8 40 page photo book
  • No weekly layout
  • It will be filed in my PL album
  • I've purchased the above template from Ali Edwards Design
  • I've made a rough page plan (this always changes as I go but it helps to have a starting point)
  • I've made a list of things I'd like to cover (so I remember to pick up the camera!)
  • Note to self - keep it simple, get it done.
Monday is Labour Day here, a public holiday and weather permitting, hopefully we get out and about and I start the week in an interesting way.

Looking forward to seeing what others come up with.

I started a page titled "Project Life 2015 brainstorm" yesterday! Have made some decisions. More on that later:)

The days seem to be disappearing so fast. Spring seems to have finally arrived and I've even broken out the shorts several times this last week!

Of course I've been a little obsessed with the beautiful light, shadows... and of course flowers!
This will be on a 12x12 page for my album

The kids will be on study leave soon and by about this time next month, they'll be on summer holidays until February!

I can't deny that I'm looking forward to having company at home. Hubby has shifted to an office off site.

Once again I find myself at a fork in the road, as I like to call it. I have so many plans that I've found I'm being counter-productive at the moment. From Monday I need to ensure I spend my days wisely! I know what I have to do. Staying on track is the hardest part.

As a side distraction, I've been caught up in the clean eating business for months now and following some very interesting reading on the Facebook page of Pete Evans, a chef in Australia and for those unfamiliar, he's a judge on a cooking show, MKR Australia, as well as an advocate for clean eating and the Paleo lifestyle. It's unbelievable how much flack he's stirred up in the so called health authorities in Australia, who are calling this lifestyle dangerous! What? Eating good real food and fats instead of carb loaded, processed, preservative and additive laden 'food'? I think they are actually running scared, a bit like when people started suing the cigarette companies.

Every day Pete has someone telling their story on his FB page. They may be a health professional or someone who has regained their health. So many things have registered with me and the stories are so inspirational. As I wrote here, I'm a Coeliac and ever since being diagnosed, I've taken a lot more interest in the labels on food. It's a subject I've rambled on about to my poor husband for years. I've always been disturbed by the rising number of unidentifiable ingredients in food. I have to say that now I'm dismayed at what I've fed my children as they've grown up, even when I thought I was choosing pretty healthy options for them. There is hidden sugar everywhere folks!

But enough on this subject. I think I feel a scrapbook layout coming on to record my story on health and food. It's probably long enough to be a mini album!

I have several Project Life pages to share. Just waiting for my photo order to show up.

Happy weekend to you all! I'm hoping to get my goals sorted into To Do lists this weekend. At last I feel ready to tackle a few things. Feeling excited!

... and a funny and true story. Anna is baby sitting 2 little boys some days during the school holidays. Yesterday was the first day and the 3 year old 'L' said:
"Do you have kids at home?"
A "No, I am a kid.".
L "Nooo you're not. You're an adult".
A "I'm a big kid. Once I was a little kid".
L "I have a secret" He leans over and whispers earnestly in her ear "Once I was a BABY!"

Ah, little children. Don't they say the cutest things?

Once again I covered a week as well as continuing my monthly CURRENTLY series. I'm really happy I started doing this monthly summary. It's a way to add a bit more about us individually and I've noticed the family like those little details I record about them:)

Last week I used a 9 pocket 8.5x11 page for my right page so I used the reverse of that to record my current thoughts on N and A. It's a very simple graphic page but for me it works because you can see through the gaps to the underlying page.

My favourite part of the Project Life process is page design. I just love choosing and adapting digital elements to my page style. #happyplace
